The next right thing

Take care of little things. If you take care of little things consistently, big things will take care of themselves.

Each day when you wake up think: today is a brand-new day.  The choices you make every hour, every minute of every day define the quality of your life.

“Every morning, when we wake up, we have twenty-four brand-new hours to live. What a precious gift! We have the capacity to live in a way that these twenty-four hours will bring peace, joy, and happiness to ourselves and others.” Thich Nhat Hanh

We make choices continuously, only most of them happen on autopilot. To make choices consciously, we have to be present first, otherwise, we will merely react based on past conditioning. Beware of the negativity bias – most of our conditioning is fear-based. Well-intended, but it won’t help you thrive, it will merely keep you in the flight/fight survival response.

Pause. Breathe. Remember who you are and where you are.

Then simply decide what’s the next right thing to do. Do it to the best of your ability.

"Most of the excuses I made...

  • not enough time

  • not enough money

  • not enough knowledge

  • not the right connections

...were just ways to avoid the real bottleneck: Not enough courage. There was always a small step I could have taken—if I had the guts to take it." - James Clear
