"Facilitation is designed for groups, organisations, networks and communities. It is the body of expertise associated with cooperation and collaboration among equals and is concerned with ensuring that everyone in the group can, if they wish, fully participate in all decisions that affect them.
It is based on values of equal worth, full participation, consensus and celebration of difference. The people who have the knowledge or intuitive ability to lead groups toward self-generated knowledge, participative decision making and consensus have become known as facilitators.
To facilitate means to make easy. The group facilitator's job is to make easier for the group to do its work. By providing non-directive leadership, the facilitator helps the group arrive at the understandings and decisions that are its task."
